Anyone jumped on the bandwagon yet?

I've decided to re-integrate myself into the tech-stream by 1) adding text messaging to my phone, and 2) subscribing to RSS feeds. I'm not exactly sure why it's taken me 3 years to do so. Anyone else have any other suggestions for tech things I should have gotten into ages ago?

I don't know if I'll jump into twitter. It's kinda like OCD Facebook status updates.

Tech things to be up on include: (in no order)
RSS / Readers
LinkedIN
Flickr
Del.icio.us
podcasts

I think those are the main things...at least in my world unless you wanna get into web dev.

I've pretty much stopped using all of those random 'social networking' sites altogether... the Soapbox is about as socially networked as I get these days. They're all the same and a waste of time, if you ask me.

The closest I get is using StumpleUpon to find interesting articles.

The internet is notoriously fast-paced. Facebook is only passe because our parents are now using it. I figure, once an internet phenomenon winds up in TV and film (either movies, shows, or just ads) as actual content, it has officially jumped the shark.

Maybe Twitter's already at that point....

I don't think I can buy that analysis since my parents use the web and email and I don't consider them passe. And, if they DID use facebook, I don't think I'd have a problem with that. Then again, I'm not 10.

It's not so much a "cool" thing... I just don't trust these sites for splashing my name around on. facebook really creeps me out (the tagging of photos, the third party platforms, etc.)

I don't know about twitter, I can't see it being a security problem or used for marketing purposes so much, but it seems as though my life will continue just fine without it.

Well I'm now on Facebook, as are my parents, and I guess I don't really care. So maybe I need to revise the position of the previous thread

If you're worried about security/privacy, e-mail and chat programs are bad enough as it is...I met a guy in Berlin who encrypts everything he sends -- all his friends have the key or something. Apparently this works nicely with Adium (chat client for Mac). Seems like overkill to me, but...

Hey, no one said anything about these things being cool or uncool! I'm just saying that Facebook and Myspace are quickly joining the ranks of ICQ and Hotmail in the realm of no-longer-fresh web phenomena. This happens once they've hit the mainstream, which in all probability includes our parents, and most definitely includes TV ad spots. Whether you think your parents are capable of using Facebook is besides the point; actually, that they can use it bolsters my point!

Anyway, now that Trevor's on Facebook, is certainly time to move on.
